Effective date: October 11, 2025
American Citizenship Companion (ACC) is published by Crag Studio LLC (USA) ("we," "our," or "us"). We respect your privacy and explain here what data the app uses, how, and your choices.
No account required. We do not run our own servers and we don't ask you to sign in. Your practice scores and settings are stored locally on your device until you delete them.
What data the app and its partners may collect
To keep improving the app and to support a free, ad-supported version, we use Google services (Firebase and AdMob). These partners may collect the following categories of data as described in their policies:
- Identifiers: device identifiers for analytics/ads.
- Usage data: product interactions and advertising data (e.g., impressions).
- Diagnostics: crash and performance data.
We configure these services not to collect information that directly identifies you (such as name or email) through our app.
How we use data
- App analytics & quality: to understand feature usage, fix crashes, and improve performance (Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics).
- Advertising: to show ads in the free version (Google AdMob). If you purchase Premium, the app removes ads.
- Notifications (optional): if you enable practice reminders, iOS delivers those locally on your device.
AI Interview Mode (OpenAI)
The app includes an optional AI Interview Mode that generates conversational practice feedback. This feature is powered by OpenAI, L.L.C. ("OpenAI") through their API. When you use AI Interview Mode, the following applies:
- What we send to OpenAI: your interview responses, the civics question being asked, and the current session context.
- What we do not send: your name, email address, location, USCIS status, payment information, or device identifiers.
- How it is used: the data is sent solely to generate the AI-powered interview feedback for that session. It is not retained or repurposed for any other use.
- Equivalent protection: OpenAI processes this data in accordance with their privacy policy, available at openai.com/policies/privacy-policy. OpenAI's API terms commit to data protection standards equivalent to those described in this policy, including not using API-submitted data to train their models by default.
- Your control: AI Interview Mode is opt-in. You can revoke consent at any time under More → Data & Privacy, after which no further data will be sent to OpenAI from the app.
Data retention
- On-device data: practice scores and preferences remain on your device until you clear them in the app or uninstall the app.
- Partner services (Firebase/AdMob): data is retained and processed by Google according to their own product settings and policies. See "Third-party services" below for links to learn more or manage your preferences with Google.
Your choices
- Reset local data: use the options under More → Data & Privacy to clear scores or saved location data.
- Premium purchase: subscribe to remove ads.
- Notifications: you can enable/disable reminders in iOS Settings → Notifications.
- Limit ad tracking: manage personalized ad settings in iOS (Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising) and via Google's Ad Settings.
Children's privacy
The app is suitable for all ages and does not require an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents or guardians can contact us to request deletion of any information we may inadvertently receive.
International users
Our company is based in the United States. Google may process data on servers located in various countries according to its policies.
